An interesting tidbit from Cal’s website, which includes the entire ABC/ESPN Pac-10 football lineup for the fall.
This is of interest on the other coast simply because Maryland opens the season at California. And it’s a matchup, stuck in a week with plenty of powerhouses facing Directional U., that probably can find its way onto TV.
SEE RELATED:It seemed like an ideal 3:30 p.m. regional game. Instead, it would seem it will be a 7 p.m. kickoff on ESPN2.
That’s 7 p.m. Pacific, by the way.
And, yes, if you add three hours onto that, it becomes a 10 p.m. Eastern kickoff. Maybe that’s only fair for the noon (i.e. 9 a.m. Pacific) start Cal endured for its trip to College Park last September.
So that deadline-unfriendly (and potentially newspaper travel-unfriendly) is likely set. And it would seem Ralph Friedgen is going to have some interesting juggling to do to squeeze a useful Monday and Tuesday practice the next week out of his sure-to-be jet-lagged team.
And that’s not even taking into account the possibility of some late practices in the days leading into the trip to adjust to the time difference.
