I’ve seen Georgetown in person five times this season and on TV a couple more, and there’s a pretty clear line of demarcation in the season.
Before the calendar turned to 2009, the Hoyas were a dangerous lot. They won at Connecticut, toppled Memphis before the Tigers figured out who their point guard was and in general looked like they would be a major nuisance.
SEE RELATED:Georgetown didn’t look much like the team that upended Memphis when they got out-toughed by West Virginia a little more than a month later. And there was absolutely no resemblance another month down the road against Louisville.
The cold, hard truth is Georgetown simply isn’t a functional team at this stage. The in-game struggles of DaJuan Summers in particular were tough to ignore; the Hoyas actually outscored Louisville by two in Summers’ 10 minutes on the bench. The same goes for Austin Freeman, though he didn’t post a 1-for-8 line from the floor.
The individual numbers are bleak, and so are the team stats. For now, though, here are the plus-minus figures for all of the Hoyas after the 76-58 loss:
