The bulk of Maryland’s kicking duties still haven’t been divvied up yet.
But coach Ralph Friedgen committed to using freshman Nick Ferrara on the Terrapins’ long field goal attempts —- as in from 50 yards or more.
SEE RELATED:“I’ll definitely use Ferrara on long field goals,” Friedgen said. “I haven’t made that decision [to split time] yet, either. If I had to kick one in the 50s, I would go with Ferrara. There’s no question in my mind.”
But that doesn’t mean a decision on everything else is coming tomorrow.
Or Tuesday. Or even before the Terps fly to California for their Sept. 5 season opener.
In fact, both Ferrara and Mike Barbour are expected to go on the trip.
“I’ll probably go with a gut feeling,” Friedgen said.
Any idea when he’ll settle on that?
“Probably Saturday about 7 o’clock Pacific time,” Friedgen said.
The Terps kick off at 7 p.m. PDT next Saturday.
So in short: Camp’s biggest mystery will probably remain that way right until Maryland lines up for its first field goal or extra point.
