It was a tough day for football yesterday at Byrd Stadium —- warm, muggy and there was a veritable track meet in progress for the athletic trainers.
It seemed like every other play, there was a sprint onto the field to attend to someone —- Cory Jackson, Da’Rel Scott, Richard Taylor and Nolan Carroll all immediately spring to mind.
SEE RELATED:One guy kept coming back for more. Well, two of them. After all, Jackson pretty much requires a badly damaged limb to keep him out of a game.
The other guy who always returned was Carroll, who had six tackles in the 35-27 defeat of California.
“I didn’t want to leave,” Carroll said. “I just want to play. That’s how I am. If I have one leg, I’m going to play. That’s just my mentality.”
There’s a lot for Ralph Friedgen to like about yesterday’s victory. Comments like that have to be near the top of the list.
Carroll (along with the now-injured Terrell Skinner) were high on my list of possible breakout players for Maryland during camp. Don’t be surprised if it comes true —- even if it is only on one leg.
