GREENSBORO, Ga. —- With a title like that, there’s probably a few people who thought this would be a mention of a certain basketball coach.
And those people would be wrong.
SEE RELATED:Instead, it concerns center Edwin Williams, who is down here at the ACC’s kickoff event.
He was part of a little skills challenge the other night that featured both driving and putting contests, the latter on a makeshift, glow-in-the-dark course.
So how’d he do?
“Horribly,” Williams confessed. “I did get a hole-in-one, though.”
Well, that’s a pretty harsh self-assessment. But surely, the big fella (the genial Williams checks in at 6-foot-2, 315 pounds) fared better with his driving.
“I drove horribly,” Williams said.
There’s that word again. But there seems to be a decent reason behind it. Williams doesn’t actually golf, at least not on a regular basis.
Chances are, a vibrant schedule of tee times wouldn’t fit very well with the myriad workouts and class responsibilities the fifth-year senior is tasked with.
“I’m trying to get better at it,” he said. “Maybe one day. I gotta learn to hit the ball first.”
That’s a sensible goal. But if it doesn’t work out, he’ll still have that putting contest hole-in-one to his credit.
