BOISE, Idaho —- Today is a travel day. So the blog will be fairly light as I come back east. There’s some leftovers from Maryland‘s 42-35 defeat of Nevada in the Humanitarian Bowl to get into, as well as some look backs at the 2008 season as a whole.
But for now, Maryland has to be pleased with how things turned out. Ralph Friedgen got to play disciplinarian in a fair way, Da’Rel Scott had a career half despite a transgression, the Maryland defense did a solid job against the run in Al Seamonson‘s tryout in the coordinator spot and the Terps have a gleaming new trophy to display back in College Park.
SEE RELATED:It’s not an Orange Bowl trophy, or an ACC trophy, but it will have to do.
Record-wise, this team turned out about where it should have been all along. The best bet at the start of the season was a bowl berth following a 6-6, 7-5 or 8-4 season, and that’s exactly what the Terps produced.
It wasn’t —- and shouldn’t be viewed —- as a disappointment. At the same time, no one will recall the utter greatness of Maryland’s 2008 season, either. It was a solid year in a string of mediocre-to-good seasons, a string that’s now five years running. Like it or not, this season was a pretty accurate reflection of where the program is at the moment.
OK, more to come later, perhaps once I get to the airport later this morning.
