Now, you never expect an exact, precise answer from a football coach when asking when a guy might make it into a game.
It would be dumb of them to say they will make a quarterback change with 13 minutes left in the second quarter.
SEE RELATED:But there’s no reason not to say there’s a targeted time in mind to get a guy —- say, Josh Portis —- into the game.
Apparently, there isn’t one at Maryland.
“I wouldn’t say it’s going to be a series and I wouldn’t say it’s going to be a drive,” offensive coordinator James Franklin said. “It might be a play here or there. It might be a few plays, just kind of see how it goes whether it’s a momentum deal, a spark deal, whether it’s just wanting to get him in the game. It’s a feel.”
Coach Ralph Friedgen echoed those sentiments during today’s brief media gathering.
“Sometimes people do it after a certain series,” Friedgen said. “I think we’re going to see how the game is going, but I haven’t sat down and talked to him about it.”
Fearless forecast: If Maryland is up two touchdowns in the first half on Saturday, Portis’ debut as a Terp will probably follow shortly.
