Former President Bill Clinton will join once-and-possibly-future Virginia gubernatorial candidate Terry McAuliffe at an Oct. 28 fundraiser for the state’s Senate Democratic Caucus at Mr. McAuliffe’s McLean home.
The event is what Senate Majority Leader Richard L. Saslaw, Fairfax Democrat, must have meant when he told the Richmond Times-Dispatch last month that “we’re talking to some people that could pump more money in here than the governor has ever dreamed of” as Democrats try to hold onto their 22-18 majority in the state’s upper chamber.
Mr. McAuliffe, who has been criss-crossing Virginia to appear at events for candidates for statewide elections this fall, has raised millions for Mr. Clinton’s presidential campaigns in the United States and his charitable efforts abroad.
Former Vice President Al Gore has called Mr. McAuliffe, chairman of the Democratic National Committee from 2001 to 2005, “the greatest fundraiser in the history of the universe.”
Mr. McAuliffe has also founded GreenTech Automotive, which produces environment-friendly and energy-efficient vehicles. GreenTech recently announced a joint venture with the Chinese company Shengyang ZhongRui Investment Co., Ltd. to produce and sell green vehicles in China, as well as a distribution agreement with the Danish company Greenabout for the American-made MyCar. He’s also looking into re-opening a shuttered paper mill in southside Virginia in an attempt to transform it into a green-energy plant.
