The Nationals finally put together the string of hits we were wondering about three innings ago, and now they take a 3-1 lead into the seventh inning.
In the sixth, Ryan Zimmerman led off with a double—extending his hitting streak to 18 games, the longest since the team moved to the District. Elijah Dukes drove him in with a single two batters later, Josh Willingham followed with another single and Anderson Hernandez chimed in with his second hit of the night, a two-out single that scored Willingham. The Hernandez hit was particularly important—it put the Nats up by two and kept them from having to lead off the seventh inning with a pinch hitter. That way, if they want to bring Garrett Mock back out, they can.
SEE RELATED:Scott Olsen gave up a couple of singles to finish his night, but was pretty solid overall—one run in 5 2/3. He threw 67 of his 93 pitches for strikes and set up his slider well. Now we’ll see if the bullpen can bring it home for him.
