The U.S. presidency is a rich prize, and political media of all sorts will turn somersaults to gild a candidate’s ego and give him or her a leg up (“‘Completely mentally sharp’: Panicked Democrats mount feverish defense of Biden,” web, Feb. 9).

So the majority of media sources — acting as Democratic Party auxiliaries and spooked by the electoral strength of Donald Trump against the frail and bumbling President Biden — will camouflage Mr. Biden’s diminished capacities.

Truth in political advertising and campaign reporting is scant in the best of times, especially for the incumbent this year. Truth be told, his diminishing condition ought to be disqualifying. What’s worse, heir apparent Kamala Harris polls worse than her boss.

There is nothing for it then but for the media to go full fake for the incumbent, as if our eyes and ears are not up to the task of sorting the incompetents.
